Importance of Health Communication in Education

What is health communication? What is the Importance of Health Communication? It’s the alteration of the way you interact with the world in which you live to promote good health.

Importance of Health Communication in Education

Personal Health Care in the Americas is a series of six articles detailing the importance of promoting health. Because this series aims to help Latin Americans create good health, one of the articles highlighted is: “What is the Importance of Health Communication?” My research paper, which explored the Importance of Health Communication for individual-family members in Latin America, was basically the third article in the series.

If we were to survey the stages of the development of Latin American public health, we can easily tell that most programs started with following simple steps. First, creating awareness and helping people to understand how they could take health better.

Next, improving resources, improving health care, ensuring access to health care for all, and finally, addressing the implications of traditional healthcare. I realized there are some incredibly transformative opportunities in areas like where we live.  I personally come from Central America and was raised in a first-world country, Colombia.

And I lived in Colombia for three years, leading me to seek a position in the public sector. I’ve always been very involved in the health community and have been working to achieve a better understanding of what it takes to support families in Latin America. Health communication becomes one more platform for that understanding.

Importance of Health Communication is about talking, interpreting, and acting in ways that shape behavior and policy, rather than about health education in general. It is about what we do when we think that people will pay attention.

Health communication can be made simpler by talking about comfort, hope, safety, or common sense. It can involve communication and conversation; all of these simple things people do without having to consult people who know better.

Health communication can be a welcoming, honest and connected public-private environment, where employees know who is paying the cost. Health communication can be about what we do when we wonder, “What if?” and the impact it could have on our lives, and how it affects others.

Communication for Health Education

In any society, a person needs communication with the masses. Communicate with people about health education and ensure that your communication is effective in changing their health. Enlightenment and behavior are the real purpose of what is called interpersonal communication.

When you meet someone, you communicate. Often this communication simply means providing information to your customers. This is not enough, as a communicator you need to exchange information with the different people you meet.

This exchange of information is not one-way, but two-way, where information must be communicated and valued between you and the people you serve. This two-way flow of information between your clients is known as the interpersonal communication unit. I explain the significant importance and situations in which interpersonal communication can be used to change behavior.

Using interpersonal communication requires certain skills; in order to be an effective communicator, you need to understand the various components. We try to use verbal, non-verbal and active listening skills and other uses. We also need various skills such as verbal and non-verbal effective speech and active listening. Use the skills to improve your image and customer trust.

Demonstrate the use of skills in performing various activities. But we must understand the importance of interpersonal communication and where to use it. Communication is an integral part of our daily life. We communicate when we talk to the people around us. Healthcare professionals will mean sharing ideas, information and experiences with the diverse groups of people you deal with in your day-to-day work.

One-on-one communication happens when you talk to your clients, such as a mother about her child’s immunizations or a teenage girl about her menstrual cycle. Small group communication occurs when you are organizing a small group meeting.

You can meet with a pregnant woman to advise her on how to deal with a problem they may have raised about the pregnancy.

You can share your own experience of communication with mass people. When communicating between you and your clients, you need to make the most of your speaking, listening and non-verbal communication skills.

By understanding and practicing a variety of skills such as effective speech, active listening, respecting people, maintaining confidentiality and developing a pleasant atmosphere in your work situation, you will be able to meet the needs of your clients as well as prove that the worker is capable.

You can help your clients answer their problems, you can help couples accept a small family norm, motivate women to use contraception, teen problem, immunization, etc.

Non-verbal communication skills are also a communication system, it is like body posture, gestures or head movements, your facial expression and the movement of your eyes. You can touch your hand to the baby and mother when you meet them.

You also use eye contact, direct eye contact with your client allows you to pay attention to what you are saying or not. If any patient avoids eye contact, you can be sure that he is hiding something.

Finally, we can say that effective speech is essential to the success of any communication. You should choose your tone of voice, topic and language according to the people you are talking to.

Effective speaking skills also require you to understand your listener’s attitudes, feelings, and needs. Good conversation skills can build trust with your clients and can be of great benefit to health education.
